What is UnderDark: Defense?
UnderDark: Defense is a tower defense game where you build towers around a camp and stop waves of monsters crawling out of a dark dungeon. Each wave gets harder, and between rounds you choose from buffs that beef up your towers, your gold income, or your camp's defenses. After about 30 minutes of play the buff choices start to feel predictable, but the early game has that "one more wave" pull. The setting is all dark stone corridors and torch-lit camps, and the monsters come from "the depths" which gives everything a creepy mood. If you like tower defense with RPG-style progression and don't mind a slightly grim art style, this fits. It's a desktop browser game, runs fine on my old laptop, and loads fast.
Honestly I spent about 20 minutes on this one before I figured out the controls — but once it clicks, it clicks. If you end up liking UnderDark: Defense, there's more where that came from. Check out Stickboy Defender — Merge Stickmen & Survive the Waves for a similar vibe on BB Online Game. Both load right in your browser, zero download.
If you want a similar dark-dungeon vibe with more arcade-style action, Deep Delve is worth a look too.
How to Play UnderDark: Defense
You start each run by placing 1-2 towers near your camp entrance, then enemies stream in from set spawn points. Each wave lasts around 2-3 minutes, and you'll need to reposition towers as paths get blocked or new lanes open up. Gold drops from kills, so aggressive tower placement early actually pays off. Between waves you pick from 3 random buffs - things like damage boosts, range upgrades, or gold multipliers. After hour 2 you'll probably hit a wall around wave 15 if you didn't stack one damage type. The frustrating part is there's no pause mid-wave, so if you mess up tower placement you're stuck watching your camp fall.

Game Controls UnderDark: Defense
You play UnderDark: Defense with your mouse or touchpad - click to select menus, place towers, and pick buffs. WASD moves your view around the map, which helps when enemies spawn from multiple dungeon paths. Pro tip: keep your cursor near the build menu so you can swap tower types fast between waves.
Keyboard controls can feel a bit weird the first 2 or 3 rounds, but they get comfortable fast. For a different control setup, try Evil Tower Review: A Sneaky Good Idle Tower Defense — it uses a similar scheme and runs just as smooth on BB Online Game.
Key Features UnderDark: Defense
Build 5+ tower types, each with 3 upgrade tiers that change how they target enemies
Face 20+ waves that scale in monster count, speed, and health
Pick from 3 random buffs after each wave - no two runs feel the same
Mouse and touch controls work the same, so laptop trackpads are fine
Camp defense mechanic lets you repair walls mid-run for a gold cost
Runs last 30-60 minutes depending on how far you push into the dungeon
Tips & Tricks UnderDark: Defense
Place at least 2 tower types early - single-type defenses get crushed past wave 10
Save gold for the buff between waves 5 and 8, that's when the difficulty spike hits
I wasted 20 minutes before realizing walls don't auto-repair, so save some gold for that
Buff stacking matters more than tower upgrades past mid-game
Use WASD to check side paths before placing expensive towers
Don't ignore the camp repair button, it's cheap and saves runs
When you want a break from strategy and just want something chill, Color Block fits the bill perfectly.
Why Play UnderDark: Defense?
Most browser tower defense games either go full casual or overwhelm you with 20 tower types on wave 1. UnderDark: Defense lands in the middle - simple enough to learn in 5 minutes, but the buff picks add real strategy. Compared to Bloons-style games, the dark dungeon theme and RPG buffs make each run feel less repetitive. Weakness: the late-game monster design repeats a lot.
