Jumping Rush Review: A Browser Platformer That Made Me Think

First you pick a level and figure out where the exit is. Then you start jumping, double-jumping, and dodging whatever the game throws at you. The obstacles change every few levels, so just when you've got the timing down, something new shows up to mess with your head. I died on the third level like twelve times because I kept rushing the double-jump. Turns out you gotta wait a split second longer before hitting it again. Once I figured that out, things clicked. The game doesn't hold your hand—it expects you to learn from dying. Restarting is instant though, so it doesn't feel punishing.

Controls are what you'd expect for a desktop platformer. Move with A/D or the left/right arrows. Jump is W or the up arrow. Press jump twice for the special double-jump. Honestly, it took me a bit to figure out the timing on that second jump—the window feels kinda tight at first. R restarts the level immediately, which you'll be using a lot. ESC takes you back to the previous screen.

Jumping Rush does the puzzle platformer thing well without overstaying its welcome. Compared to similar browser games, the shell mechanic actually adds something fresh instead of just being a gimmick. The difficulty ramps up steady instead of spiking randomly. The visuals are pretty basic and the music gets repetitive after twenty minutes, but the core gameplay holds up.
